November is a good month to get out around Northern Nevada. The first ski lift of the season starts turning, the craft fairs kick off holiday shopping, and every town from Reno to the Carson Valley has something going on. Here is what I would put on the calendar for the rest of the month.
Reno and Lake Tahoe
- Mt. Rose opens for the season, Friday, Nov. 6. The resort plans to start the Lakeview Express at 9 a.m. with a few runs and a small beginner area. Expect more terrain as snowmaking continues.
- Dragon Lights at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum, through Nov. 29. The lantern festival runs 5 to 9 p.m. every night through the end of the month. A nice one for kids.
- Nevada Wolf Pack football at Mackay Stadium. Home games against New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Hawaii on Saturday, Nov. 21.
- Reno Antique Faire, Sunday, Nov. 15. Vendors line Virginia Street near the Reno Arch starting at 10 a.m. Free to walk.
- Tipsy Turkey Wine Walk, Saturday, Nov. 21. A wine walk through the Riverwalk District starting at 2 p.m.
Carson City
- Día de los Muertos at the Nevada State Museum, Nov. 6 and 7. Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Family friendly.
- Saturday Night Star Party, Nov. 14. Public stargazing at the Jack C. Davis Observatory from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Dress warm.
- Carson Christmas Creator Fair, Saturday, Nov. 21. More than 60 local makers at the Carson City Community Center, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A second fair follows on Dec. 5.
- Nevada State Prison Ghost Walks, Saturday, Nov. 21. Evening tours of the old prison site from 7 to 9 p.m.
- Meet Santa and the Grinch, Sunday, Nov. 22. Stop by Rice Street Collective at 111 Rice Street between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to say hello to Santa and the Grinch. A visit is a $30 donation, and it helps a local family have a good Christmas. There will be a hot cocoa bar, and cookies for sale.
- Save the date: Silver & Snowflake Festival of Lights, Friday, Dec. 4. The Capitol tree lighting and caroling, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It is the start of the holiday season in Carson City.
Carson Valley

Dayton and the Comstock

- Veterans Day Parade in Virginia City, Wednesday, Nov. 11. Starts at 11 a.m.
- Old Town Dayton walking tour, Sunday, Nov. 22. Leaves from the Dayton Museum at 1:30 p.m. A good way to learn the history of one of the oldest towns in Nevada.

Ways to give back
- Dayton High School Booster Club Turkey Drive, Wednesday, Nov. 11. Drop off donations for the Dayton Food Pantry at Grocery Outlet in Dayton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Shop with a Sheriff Christmas Toy Drive, Thursday, Nov. 19. Bring a new toy to Stone & Skillet at The Odeon in Dayton, 5 to 7 p.m.
Dates and times can change, so check with the organizer before you head out. I pulled these from Visit Reno, Visit Carson City, Visit Carson Valley, Travel Nevada and The Comstock Chronicle.
Thinking about a move to one of these towns, or just curious what homes are going for near you? Look around the neighborhoods I know well, or call or text me at (775) 291-7131. I am always glad to talk it through.
